What is the J-MOS System?

Scope:
The J-MOS System is a program designed to “Centralize” information, remove repetitive managerial tasks, and put your entire company on the same operating and information platform. In turn, this significantly reduces non-value added labor which increases your productive minutes in the worked hour .
J-MOS creates and organizes millwork orders (MWIDs); loads and tracks hours in Real-Time, creates fabrication reports, job cost analysis, capacity view for fabrication windows, what if scenarios for task completions, posted hours reports, delivery tickets, time sheets, comparisons of estimated vs. actual hours, data collection using bar-coded work orders and touch-screen input devices. J-MOS will track: parts, batches, tasks or processes, hours on jobs and work orders, employee time, percent completion updates, expected due date completion, quantity of parts and batch completion. Real-Time snapshots of what's going on in the shop, warns of time overages, late completions, non-value added labor tracking… and much more.
J-MOS functions as the “core” communication tool between owners, estimators, project and production managers, production staff, floor personnel, material handlers, accounting and all labor departments.

History:
The Jefferson - Management and Operations System (J-MOS), is a software package designed by a custom wood architectural millwork firm located in Northern Virginia, USA.
J-MOS development started informally in 1997 and Jefferson Industrial Software, LLC, became its own entity in 2005.
Though an independent company, Jefferson Industrial Software’s office is physically located in a millwork plant and intends to stay in this environment. The only way to keep a pulse on the industry and move with its trends is to be a witness of the everyday action.
Now, J-MOS is an evolution of ideas stemming from the basic needs of workers in our industry. There is an ongoing never-ending challenge to supply this need and we are dedicated to meet this challenge.
Catalyst:
The J-MOS System was created from the need of organizing a quickly growing custom wood millworking firm. As the company grew, running multiple jobs with multiple work orders was beginning to be a task destined for catastrophe.
Work orders were being thrown “over the wall” into the shop. Jobs were being “bumped” out of the way for a seemingly more urgent work that needed to be done. Cabinetmakers and bench mechanics were being pulled right and left, overtime was rampant, materials were being misallocated, and bottlenecks were always a battle. Needless to say job tracking and job costing was no more accurate than “best guess” at times.
As time went on over the years, J-MOS incorporated practical ways of handling manufacturing operations as the needs arose. However, the consistent theme was to have a single central source of information. One place everyone could go and get the same information, in the same format.
Considering the internal success of the J-MOS System, Jefferson Industrial Software was born and J-MOS went on the market.
General:
With input from J-MOS clients as to their specific needs and ideas, J-MOS has taken on a life that facilitates many different aspects of how a business is run. The J-MOS System is so malleable that when it is implemented in a place of business it is setup on the basis of how that business is already organized. J-MOS uses the current firm’s production methodology and nomenclature. This makes the integration smooth and the learning curve extremely fast.
A typical integration timeline of a custom or production shop with approximately 100 employees would be about five days. A series of additional live-on-line training sessions over the following months would be necessary as the system use becomes clearer with recorded history.
